HCRA Actions & Decisions

HCRA Actions & Decisions

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) may take regulatory action when new home builders and sellers fail to meet their legal and ethical obligations under the New Home Construction Licensing Act, 2017 and associated regulations.

These actions may include requiring training or education, imposing financial penalties, laying charges, or suspending or revoking a builder’s licence. These measures reflect the HCRA’s commitment to maintaining professional standards, supporting continuous improvement, and fostering a homebuilding industry that is safe, transparent, and accountable to consumers.

Information about HCRA regulatory actions and decisions is available on the Ontario Builder Directory. The Builder Directory provides information such as a builder’s licensing status, the number of years a builder has been active, the number of homes they have built, and conduct concerns including any charges and/or convictions against the builder.

By making this information accessible, the HCRA supports informed decision-making and promotes transparency across the industry.
